As the price of energy increases and the negative environmental impact of many current practices becomes more obvious, the need for more reliable, cleaner and cheaper energy has become central to both our economic health and environmental quality. Over the past few years, there has much discussion about alternative energy sources, including:

More recently, as energy prices have soared, the demand to pursue these technologies has significantly increased. As the ongoing events page of this site demonstrates, the call for change has impacted the social, economic and political arenas of American life. One thing has become clear: change is needed.

However, over the last few weeks, as energy prices have plummeted, the trend has again changed. Alternative energy development has taken a backseat to finding a solution to the economic crisis. Investment in and political support for alternative energy has faltered.

Moving Forward

Despite recent setbacks, there are many in the financial and political arenas (President-Elect Obama among them) that see a link between the energy and financial crises and seek to solve both through a common agenda.

Nevertheless, the alternative energy industry is poised to change a great deal in the near future. There is much to do and, with so many stakeholder groups to manage, it certainly will not be easy. I hope the tools I’ve provided on this site will help you keep up with the industry in the future.
